All English essences are listed alphabetically below:
AVALON SPRINGS - For bringing about a state of balance to mind, body and spirit.
These two springs in Glastonbury, which come from underground sources in different parts of England, originally flowed together soon after they rose from the ground, a sacred event in all nature-based cultures. One leaving a red deposit on the rocks over which it flows and the other a white one, they were regarded as embodying the energies of the Goddess and the God, or the Earth Mother and Pan. To bring about balance between one’s inner feminine and masculine many people mix the waters of the two springs. We have done that for you by blending the essences of Glastonbury Chalice Well and Glastonbury White Spring into one Avalon Springs essence.
AVEBURY STONE CIRCLE - A beautiful loving energy that invites all your chakras to open and realign. An opportunity to gently bring balance into your aura.
The largest stone circle in the world with a diameter of a quarter of a mile. One antiquarian said Stonehenge compared to Avebury was like a parish church in comparison to a cathedral. It also had two avenues of parallel stones stretching in each direction for a mile and a quarter. It has been referred to as a serpent or dragon temple, very aptly because the earth energy currents snake around this sacred landscape surrounding Avebury. It is the midpoint along the St Michael leyline and the Michael and Mary earth energy currents cross three times here, a feature found in just one other place – Glastonbury. Avebury has become synonymous with crop circles as the vast majority occur close to the sacred sites in this landscape temple. Avebury was the neolithic centre of Britain and the main focus appears to have been at Beltane. This essence was made at the Beltane full moon.
BOSCAWEN-UN STONE CIRCLE - This essence deeply connects us to both Spirit and the Earth. Sprayed on the feet it helps to ground, sprayed in the aura it helps focus the third eye chakra for spiritual insight and opens the heart centre.
This is our favourite stone circle! Hidden within fern-covered heathland in Cornwall’s West Penwith region it is a place out of time. Considered by many to be one of the most powerful stone circles in Britain, the ring of crystal-studded granite stones is complete, including a massive block of quartz. Unusually there is a tall standing stone in the centre of the circle that leans at an angle of 45 degrees pointing to the sky in the northeast. Whether marking particular star systems or energetically connecting Heaven and Earth, powerful earth energies including the Mary current converge on this central stone. This may be why the ancient Druidic Bards held their major gorsedds (meetings) here.
CARN-LES-BOEL - The energetic blueprint of Carn-les-boel comes as a pulse or wave. Embodying both masculine and feminine qualities it is both relaxing and energizing, still and yet full of potential.
High on the cliff-top overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the Michael and Mary earth energy currents cross at the most westerly tip of England. The view from here is breathtaking; aquamarine waters fill the crescent-shaped bays either side of the headland and heather-covered hills act as guardians of this natural haven. All the elements come together here in dramatic style making this a stunning setting for an energy vortex. The energies that first come ashore here, converge and dive into the natural granite rock at Carn-les-boel before re-emerging to snake their way across the countryside as they follow the St. Michael leyline eastwards. On their three hundred and fifty mile coast-to-coast journey following the direction of the Beltane sunrise these energy currents will come together again at other special sacred sites such as St. Michael’s Mount, Glastonbury and Avebury.
DOZMARY POOL - Use this essence to connect with the Lady of the Lake and ask for the gift of your own Excalibur!
This is the watery home of the legendary Lady of the Lake. It was she who gifted Excalibur to King Arthur stating- “This sword’s name is Excalibur, it can cut through metal and stone, but the true power lies not in the blade but in the scabbard (sheath). He who wears it shall never die of his wounds, guard it with your life!”
She was teaching Arthur that although decisive action in the world is important, right action is determined through the more gentle receptivity of connection to source, a lesson we still need to understand today. Located on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, there is an otherworldliness to Dozmary Pool.
GLASTONBURY ABBEY - This essence is imbued with ancient wisdom and is a quiet embrace from the goddess/god.
Joseph of Arimathea founded the first Christian church in Britain at Glastonbury. His first church, laid out according to sacred geometry, was a round church of ‘wattle & daub’ on the ‘holiest earth of England’ where the present abbey ruins now stand. The abbey was closed down nearly five hundred years ago by king Henry VIII. Where the high altar once stood there is a crossing point of the powerful Michael and Mary earth energy currents. This essence was made at full moon close by a holy well within the Mary chapel where the original round church stood.
GLASTONBURY CHALICE WELL - The energy of Chalice Well is one of unconditional love, wholeness, balance, support and protection.
One of two sacred springs in Glastonbury, the waters of Chalice Well flow out from the foot of the feminine Chalice Hill. The iron-rich waters are seen as the lifeblood of the Goddess and stain the watercourses a rusty red colour. The valley where the two springs rise has been revered as a sacred landscape since pagan times. During the twentieth century the property around the red spring was acquired by a trust and Chalice Well Gardens were created as a haven of peace, tranquility and spirituality to honour the sacred waters of the Goddess. Legend says that the Holy Grail is hidden within the wellhead, imbuing the waters with significance for Christians as well. The Michael and Mary earth energy currents cross by the waters in the gardens. . This essence was made with the water from the Well at full moon.
GLASTONBURY TOR - The Tor essence can take you inward and offers balance. A nurturing aid for meditation.
As you approach Glastonbury from any direction the first thing you see is the dramatic outline of the Tor rising dramatically from the surrounding flatlands of the Somerset Levels. This natural hill, surmounted by St. Michael’s tower, has been a beacon of spirituality since pagan times and still acts as a magnet for people of all beliefs. Some people see the terraces that spiral around the hill as a massive labyrinth. Since Celtic times the Tor has been seen as a portal to the Otherworld ruled over by Gwyn ap Nudd. The Michael & Mary earth energy currents perform a remarkable dance around the sides of the Tor and cross at a node point on one of the terraces. This essence was made on the full moon on top of the Tor.
GLASTONBURY WHITE SPRING - This essence resonates in the solar plexus. Visualising a five-pointed star in conjunction with the essence can bring a feeling of peace to an inner conflict.
One of two sacred springs in Glastonbury the White Spring flows out from the foot of the masculine Glastonbury Tor. Containing dissolved limestone it is considered to embody masculine properties. The water was contained by the Victorians inside a stone water chamber that is now a pagan shrine and the water flows freely through the wall. It has had a chequered past like a knight who got lost on his search for the Holy Grail. This essence was made with the water from the White Spring at full moon.
MEN-AN-TOL - This essence starts by bringing you deep into your own inner temple. This can lead to an expansive opening of your chakras.
A Cornish holed stone revered by countless generations for its healing properties. It stands on edge three feet (one metre) high and is flanked by a pair of upright granite standing stones that hold the energy. Crawl through the hole three times for healing. In former times mothers would pass their children through the hole as a remedy for a variety of maladies. The high crystal content of the granite conducts the powerful earth energies of the ground: these energies realign your aura as you pass through the energy field created inside the hole. Set in an isolated location the site feels clean, pure and so welcoming. There is a strong sense of the sacred and timelessness here.
MERLIN’S MOUND - Full of light, this energy flows in and out like the breath, gently massaging the aura and leading to personal expansion.
A smaller version of Silbury Hill, Merlin’s Mound sits quietly in the grounds of a private school. They both originally stood in the flood plain of the river Kennett whose waters are potentised by powerful earth energies. Legend speaks of Merlin sleeping or being buried in the mound, and it was a storehouse of ancient wisdom that is now flowing out into the world once again. It is the right arm of a landscape pentagram centred on Avebury, the left arm being Morgan’s Hill; these two complementary opposites are joined by an ancient gently-curving earthen bank known as the Wansdyke. This essence was made at full moon on Beltane.
MORGAN’S HILL – This energy feels magnetic, enchanting, drawing you in. Connect with the divine feminine.
Morgan’s Hill is the archetypical feminine site. It is like a hollow volcano with a narrow vulva-like opening on top of a hill. The crescent ridge is surmounted with twisted beech trees and a rookery lives in the canopy. It is on the oldest trackway in Britain, the Ridgeway which may be as much as ten thousand years old. It is the left arm of a landscape pentagram centre on Avebury, the right arm being Merlin’s Mound; these two are joined by an ancient gently-curving earthen bank known as the Wansdyke. This essence was made at full moon on Beltane.
SANCREED HOLY WELL - Resonates with the third eye for spiritual insight. Sit quietly, bring your question to mind and let the answer rise to the surface.
Considered by many to be the most sacred of Cornish wells and a source of healing. ‘Wella’ in Anglo-Saxon meant spring or flowing water. When you descend the three steps into the earthen chamber to the source of the spring your eyes readjust to the dark and you see the fluorescent green moss glowing brightly on the inside of the covering stones, a tiny leaf seemingly floating in the air in front of you and offerings of crystals and coins inserted between damp surfaces as close to the water’s surface as a grateful hand could reach. A bubble ripples the surface of the magical liquid and circles radiate outwards to kiss the rocky walls. You reach down and oh so reverently allow your fingers to slip into the dark water. Time has no measure here. You are with source – you are. You may remember to ask the question you came to ask but it really doesn’t matter for your heart is wide open and no words are needed. Tears gently flow, thankyou. You step out into the light transformed and healed.
SILBURY HILL - Subtly powerful, this essence appears to make time slow down and holds you in a gentle loving caress.
This five thousand year-old mound is an energetic capacitor, building up charge and then releasing it to the ancient landscape temple surrounding it. When flooded with water the moat around it takes on the shape of a squating goddess figure with Silbury as her pregnant belly. With a footprint of five acres and a hundred and thirty feet tall it’s the largest artificial mound in Europe. When they excavated its centre looking for treasure, they found platted grass still green after five millenia! It was built directly on the Mary earth energy current. This essence was made at the Beltane full moon.
ST MICHAEL’S MOUNT - This essence can take you deep within yourself. It embodies the wisdom of the Earth bringing stillness, security and balance.
Legend states that St Michael appeared to fishermen off this tiny island in Mount’s Bay, Cornwall. A monastery quickly followed atop the hill that dominates the isle. This recognition of the island’s sacred nature is appropriate because four major earth energy currents converge at a massive rocking stone on the western edge. The Michael and Mary energy currents follow the famous St Michael leyline across southern England passing through a breathtaking array of ancient sacred sites including the Hurlers on Dartmoor, Brentor, Glastonbury, Avebury, Royston Cave, Bury St Edmunds Abbey and dozens of churches dedicated to St Michael or Mary. Apollo and Athena are the other two energy currents and they head south across Europe and go to the Holy Land. All four currents in fact travel all the way round the world. This essence was made at the crossing point of these powerful energies on the island sanctuary of St Michael.
ST NECTAN’S GLEN & WATERFALL - Let the energy of this essence wash over you like the waterfall and cleanse you of all you wish to release. A good aid to meditation.
This waterfall is where the early saint set up his hermitage cell. Set in a magical wooded glen (valley) this is nature at its purest. The waterfall cascades into a kieve or stone bowl before overflowing into a pool where you can bathe. A numinous atmosphere pervades the whole valley and St Nectan’s cell is still there for use by visitors/pilgrims for meditation or prayer. The region has been considered special for a long time; close by is evidence of a Neolithic sacred site and just down the coast is Tintagel, the mythical birthplace of King Arthur. This essence was made with the waters from the waterfall.
STONEHENGE - The energy of Stonehenge is big scale. It vibrates through our physical body and resonates through to a soul level reconnecting us to Spirit.
A temple of great complexity and sophistication that is surrounded in mystery. Who built it, how and why? As a sun temple it charts the year accurately and marks the solstices and equinoxes. As a former lunar temple it can record the phases of the moon and predict eclipses. Its location and proportions show that its builders accurately knew the size and shape of the Earth. They also knew aspects of mathematics way before our history tells us they were discovered. The same units of measure were employed by the builders of Solomon’s Temple in Jerusalem, Stonehenge and the sacred city of Teotihuacan in Mexico implying a sophisticated global body of knowledge if not global civilization. Their knowledge of civil engineering allowed them to do things we couldn’t do today. And they were expert in utilizing natural earth energies to empowers all activities taking place there – initiations, rites of passage, healings and other ceremonies. All in all after five thousand years, Stonehenge still creates in us a sense of awe and wonder.
TREBLE SPRINGS – The essence brings clarity and psychic opening, a sense of elevation. Be open to communication in joy.
These springs are, in our opinion, the quiet energetic centre of England. Not to be found in any guidebook they are located close to the powerful landscape temple around Avebury and sit at the epicentre of crop circle activity. The atmosphere at these springs is quiet and still, like in the eye of a storm. The nature guardians of this fragile ecosystem don’t want visitors, they want their message to go out into the world, like the water. This essence is one way of bringing their message to the world. Centre and quieten yourself then spray the essence into your aura and be open to communication.
WEARYALL HILL & HOLY THORN - This energy works from the outside inwards and brings a dynamic balance to the aura.
Looking like a dragon sleeping in the landscape, Wearyall Hill was the site of Glastonbury’s quay and therefore the doorway into Avalon. The Holy Thorn Tree that grows on the hill is a descendant of one that reputedly grew from the staff of Joseph of Arimathea when he arrived in Avalon, possibly with the young man Jesus. The tree has become a focal point for modern pagans and Christians alike and is adorned with clotties or prayer flags. This essence was made by the Holy Thorn on a full moon evening.
WEST KENNET LONG BARROW – A joyful uplifting energy that activates the chakras from the base up to the crown and above.
This remarkable underground passage chamber is five and a half thousand years old. Often erroneously referred to as a tomb its original purpose was probably more to do with initiations, ceremonies and rites of passage. It contains five circular chambers off a central spine, very much like the underground goddess temples of Malta. Its entrance is aligned to the midwinter sunrise. The Mary earth energy current crosses the chamber on her way to Silbury Hill and Avebury. West Kennet has fantastic accoustics and so is a great place for chanting and toning. Light orbs have been seen in and around the chamber. This essence was made at the Beltane full moon.
